What happens when credits run out?

As of July 5, 2023, you'll no longer be able to buy credits, and credits will no longer auto-renew. When your credits run out, we'll ask you to switch to a monthly subscription to continue sending with Postmark. Read more about the retirement of the credit-based system

Before we introduced monthly subscription plans in 2017, Postmark customers could purchase email credits as a pay-as-you-go option. Postmark relied on credits for tracking usage and billing for customers using this system. Each credit is equal to one message sent through the system. This includes whether the email has bounced or reached the recipient.

As of July 5, 2023, auto-renew has been disabled for all credits accounts. This means that when your credits balance runs low, we will not automatically refill your credits. It also means that the ability to purchase credits has now been fully retired. You can still redeem credits that were purchased before July 5. You just can’t buy any more.

Before your credits run out, you’ll need to log into your account to choose a subscription. If no subscription is selected, and your account runs out of credits after July 5, sending/receiving will be paused.

Low credits email notifications

Postmark will send a series of email alerts to the admins, owners, and emergency contacts on your account when your account’s credit balance is running low. These emails go out when your account has 10%, 5%, and 0% of the credits remaining from your last purchase. Once your account reaches zero credits, any messages sent to Postmark will be kept in queue until a purchase is made. It’s very important to watch credit usage to avoid any disruption in sending. You should also keep your account contact details up-to-date, including admins, billing, and emergency contacts, so you don't miss important emails.

We highly recommend switching to a monthly subscription to avoid interruption. Contact us and we’ll help fit you into the best plan based on your sending volume.
