Feature announcement: enhanced bounce webhook

Hot off the heels of our link tracking release we added some enhancements to our bounce webhook today. As a reminder, with the bounce webhook you can receive POSTs to your webhook URL every time a bounce event occurs. For a more detailed overview and some additional tips, read Patrick’s blog post called Putting webhooks to work.

There are a few things you’ve been asking us to add to the bounce webhook, and today we released three of those enhancements:

  • We now include the “From” email field in the webhook data so that you can see which email address sent the email that bounced.
  • We now include a “ServerID” field for which server generated the bounced email. This should make it easier to hunt down the cause of any bounce issues.
  • We added a field for setting “Include bounce content in webhook” to the Servers API. Up to now this was only possible through the Postmark UI.

We hope that these small improvements will help to give you more flexibility in the way you respond to bounces. What’s next for webhooks? We still plan to release a webhook for delivery events this quarter, which is another feature many of you have asked for.

In addition to all of this, I’m very interested in how our customers use webhooks, and how we could make them work better for you. If you’re willing to talk to us about your use cases for webhooks, please send us an email to support@postmarkapp.com.
